Three cheers for Michelle Obama and all of America. She decided to plant a garden that helps feed the people. She is a woman with a purpose.

Being the wife of the President of the United States is a most difficult job in my opinion. She has to look just right. She has to talk properly. She has to be a good Mom. Add to that, she has to have a purpose. A goal, a task, a worthwhile cause that she as first lady does that is good for the country, but not really associated with the president. Michelle Obama does many good deeds, but the one I think she will be most remembered for is the American Garden she planted.

Once upon a time in America, nearly everyone had a garden. For a variety of reasons, gardens are now few and far between until now. In her book “American Grown,” Mrs. Obama talks about the gardens across America that have inspired her.

When visiting the Hidden Gardens of Beacon Hill in Boston, MA, I learned how much can be grown in a very small space. Across America small spaces are being used to grow gardens.

I admire Michelle Obama for many reasons, especially the way she becomes involved with children. She cares about kids and their future. Can you imagine how memorable it will be for many of the students who planted a garden to tell their experience. They will remember The First Lady and what she did to help America.

All First Ladies contribute to America. Until now I don’t remember any who got right down to the root system and fertilized the soil and planted new seeds. Thank you Mrs. Obama and keep up the good work.

Keep America Growing. Keep our young people thinking.
