Goldilocks and the Three Movers

Goldilock and the Three Bears Doll Hous

We got three in home moving estimates.  The lowest estimate was given by a drill sargent. “You have everything boxed and ready to roll when we get here. Right!” I didn’t like his demeanor or his answers to the questions I asked. I had mentally dismissed him even before I got his estimate.

The highest estimate came from the friendliest guy who offered to lower his prices if someone came in lower. Excuse me, but I don’t think that is how the process is supposed to work. He was very nice, but very needy.

The middle man from United Van Lines was competent from start to finish. He exuded confidence, knowledge and shared helpful hints. He went over the paperwork with us and encouraged us to read the material he left us. He explained how the insurance worked and how estimate vs actual shipping weight works. He makes me feel comfortable.

How did you choose your moving company?

Get good and reputable guys. We had a firm out of NYC move us and it was like working with the Russian Mafia. Good guys, but…

Sounds a bit scary. Glad it all worked out, but…

I’d pick the middle guy! :)

Shaun Brennan from United is so confident, I feel totally at ease. It is a good feeling.

Pick with your gut – respect the experience embedded in that place – the messages your gut sends you are multidimensional – much less risky than goIng with your head

You are so right Paul. I once read an article explaining “gut feeling.” The article explained that what we call “gut feeling” is actually all the experience we have accumulated in our life. Even though we may not be able to articulate each event that creates that body of knowledge that becomes our experience it is there in our gut. My that is a lot of words for what you said so succinctly.

I actually did go with my gut and picked who I believe is the best choice. Of course I will give you a full written report when we get to Vegas to let the world know if I was correct.

Wonderful reminder that being confident, knowledgable and helpful wins every time. It’s funny that people think it’s about price. I met a needy landscaper recently and honestly I doubt I’d ever call the guy back. I understand he needs work to survive, but not sure making me uncomfortable in the first two minutes of introducing himself is the best way to approach potential clients. Just saying…hope your move was good!

You are so right Chris, it is never about the price. Too bad your landscaper doesn’t have more confidence.
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the good wishes.
