Did You Hear the Story About the Dumpster

We decided to remove the shrubs and flowers around the pool because I am allergic to them and because they were falling in the pool. To best accomplish that task, we rented a dumpster. We thought we were getting a small container, but it turned out to be a very large one as you can see.

Las Vegas has excellent deposal services. They are so good that the first quarter fee is part of the closing cost when you buy a house. They also supply dumpsters. We arranged for a drop off and a pick up date, but could not arrange a time.

After a busy day, Steve and I laid down for a short nap. Then the doorbell rang. When I got to the door, I found three large boxes squeezed between the dumpster and the front gate. They were too big for me to move. I woke Steve, who didn’t appear happy to be awakened.

We got one of the big square boxes to the patio and were on our way to collect the second one when the big truck arrived.

You can see how big the dumpster is. Just imagine how big the truck is that hauls that thing. The truck was backing into position. Steve and I were careful incase the dumpster moved and we got squashed. The driver lined the truck up and then he got out of the truck. Totally forgetting our manners, not even introducing ourselves, we scrambled to move the boxes out of the way.

The square boxes contain chairs. The flat box, which was wedged into the side of the dumpster, contains the table. I was afraid the table would not be seen and just go with the dumpster.

The gentleman who managed that monster truck smiled and said we had nothing to worry about. He said he would have moved the boxes before he moved the dumpster. He did a careful check all around the dumpster before he hoisted it onto the truck. I sure wish I had gotten his name. We thanked him and he drove off with a smile.

In panic moments do you forget your manners?

I was thinking about you this morning and here you are. I think it was only natural that you may have slipped up a bit when there was so much going on. I still say “please” and “thank you” in moments of panic but that may be just all I can muster.

The people in Las Vegas have been a big surprise. With the exception of Keith Chapman, everyone we have met so far has moved to Vegas. People are friendly and very welcoming. They are kind and helpful. We are very happy to be here.
