Kitchen Table Companies – Our Table

Kitchen Table Companies is a group of small business owners who share information, education and thoughts with each other. Having said that, there have been several comments about the actual tables. We thought we would tell you about our kitchen table – or we should say tables.

Party on for Charity

We attended a Charity Poker Tournament that turned out to be charity event. In addition to the poker, there were raffles, and karaoke. The most outstanding part of the event was the attendance and camaraderie of the multi-generational folks at the party. It was a great time, money was raised for charity and it was heart warming to see everyone have such a good time together.

My three words for 2011 – in response to Chris Brogan

Note:  Mom was under the weather yesterday so we did not do a video or formal post. She is feeling better today so I think we will be cranking out a video for tomorrow.

On January 1st, 2011, Chris Brogan (our son) wrote a post titled “My 3 words for 2011″.

He chose three words to motivate him for the coming year.

His words were:  Reinvest. Package. Flow.

My three words are:  Confidence, Consistency and Curiosity.

Confidence: – something that I need to work on attaining for the upcoming year.

Consistency: a habit or skill that I need to improve on that will enable me to succeed.

Curiosity: a trait that I cultivate that will be helpful to attain new information and skills.

What are your words for 2011 that will guide you to success?

Swiss Cheese

NCI swiss cheese
Image via Wikipedia

Once upon a time, I attended a time management class. Since that day, I have used the “Swiss Cheese” method of task management. Visualize a round of Swiss Cheese and all the many holes in the cheese. Now imagine another round of cheese that is solid. If you keep taking bits and pieces out of the cheese, it will soon look like the Swiss Cheese.

Apply that thought to daily life. Our family Christmas celebration starts in less than 24 hours from now. There are gifts to be wrapped, a final house cleaning to be done, food to prepare, calls to make, and the list goes on an on. When I woke this morning, I knew it was time to “Swiss Cheese It.”

I keep a plain old notebook handy for notes. When I have more than one project going, I use a sheet for each item. A breakout of the list above is food preparation.

For instance, food to prepare.

Quick list of food we are serving
Inventory of items needed to complete food list
Containers for left overs
Check for refrigerator space
Food presentation – table or buffet style

Something to consider

Thought – One fear of aging is loosing our memory. That does happen, so a notebook of memory joggers is helpful.

Second Thought – We live in a very busy world. Daily news is delivered in bite sized pieces. That means we are exposed to more thoughts and ideas. Our community of family and friends share thoughts and ideas. With the easy accessibility to information, there is just so much more we are exposed to. It is difficult to keep it all straight some times.

If an idea hits me that I wish to explore, I write that idea down on a fresh sheet in my notebook. As new ideas for that subject speed through my brain, I write them down so I don’t loose the thought.

There are now hundreds of electronic methods to do this same function, but for me, my notebook works just fine.

How do you remember the details of your life?

The Brogan Christmas Card Tradition

For many years now, we have been fortunate to send out Christmas cards designed and drawn by our older son, Chris Brogan.  This year is no exception.

He draws a lot of hidden details into the front of the card and even has surprises on the back.

Notice the cats ears and tails appearing in the drawing!

We wish you a very happy and joyful holiday season.
