This is no fairy tale…
Hollie Pollard is an amazing person. Her recent job loss – job search – new job – is a testament to the greatness of Hollie herself and how she used social media to help.
Hollie was taking care of small children in her home. Last week at 6PM the parents of those children told Hollie they had lost their job and would not need Hollie to take care of their children any more. Hollie was out of work just like that. Ouch for all concerned.
Most of what happened next played out on Twitter. After a “Why Me” and a deep breath, Hollie started planning. Let me share a little bit about Hollie with you. Hollie, also known as @commoncentsmom, has a great blog at http://www.commoncentsmom.com. Her Twitter profile defines her as: Smart Consumer, Mom, Reader, Writer, Friend, Job Seeker. Host of #cdnmoney chat. She lives in Toronto, ON.
Friday, Jan 20, Hollie posted on Twitter that she had lost her job and needed help finding a new job. Kindness, encouragement and job leads were shared immediately. After she got a job, she said: “My biggest suggestion 4 those job hunting, let others know yr skill set, & yr dreams. They may B a key 2 an open door.”
She was up bright and early Saturday morning. She added a little color to her hair and then she was off to have her hair trimmed. She did before and after pictures. It was the first time, I have ever been involved in an international wait game for the new hair style. I cheered her on and prayed every day that she would get a job.
This is Hollie after her new hair cut.
Late Wednesday, Jan 25, Hollie accepted a job. She tweeted: “I start immediately, will be in the office at 9am, and I don’t think I will sleep am too excited!”
I cheered when I saw this tweet from Hollie, “Love that I can say I was unemployed less then a week.”
At 6:50AM on Thursday Jan 26, Hollie tweeted: “Good Morning, if you didn’t hear my good news last night. Today I start my dream job, so def a good morn!”
At 6:59AM on Thursday Jan 26, Hollie tweeted: “Owe my new job to Twitter, networking, great girl friend who knew my skill set, and karma. Lets just say doing happy dance.”
After the CEO announced her addition to the team, Hollie Pollard tweeted: “I have joined the @shesconnected team.”
I followed Hollie’s job search on Twitter, but she also blogged about it at http://commoncentsmom.com/ and posted on Google+ to cover all bases.
CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES AT YOUR NEW JOB HOLLIE!
