Halloween in Chester, NH

We drove through Chester, NH a couple of times before we realized that all of their halloween decorations were happy. At the public library we learned that the Chester Historical Society was doing a contest. Town members bought the basic scarecrow with eyes attached and dressed it and posed it in various settings. The end result was a pleasing display for everyone to enjoy. We hope you enjoy the partial tour we created for you. Happy Halloween.

Spring Fed by Andrew Wyeth

Steve and Diane Brogan visited the Kuerner Farm in Chadds Ford, PA and saw the setting of “Spring Fed” painted by Andrew Wyeth. It was an awe inspiring moment. Diane says “Whenever I see “Spring Fed” in the future, I will always remember how I felt standing there as the water tricked in and the animals made rustling noises in their stalls. It was a memorable day.”

Snowmen and Nitch Marketing

Susan Wallace likes snowmen. She likes snowmen so much that she creates snowmen whenever she thinks up a new one. As wonderful as all these snowmen are, they are even better when they are shared with others.

Susan started doing “nitch marketing” before it was defined as such. It has worked well for her and her many customers have benefited.

At the end of October, she displays all of her snowmen at the “Snowman Festival” she hosts. The theme of the show is snowmen, but other items are added for extra interest.

My favorite one this year is the fourth row down. The snowman head on the large spring. With only a slight touch, the spring moves nicely. It’s different and I like conversational pieces.

The pictures above are a small sample of the snowmen created by snowman lover Susan Wallace. See all she has to offer by visiting her this weekend at the:

Personal – Very Personal

As you know, Mom Pop Pow has a very large readership of nearly twenty people some days, but even so, we never want to be pushy or offensive to any of our readers. So many people on the web take offense when a blogger offers anything for sale on their blog.

On the other side of the coin, if we offer something very special, would you like to know about it? Would you like to give a gift that is unique and very personal. Should we share that secret with you. We decided to tell you about what we do in the back room.

The first piece of jewelry I learned to wire wrap from my DVD training course was a fashion cameo. There are many fashion cameos on the market including some with pictures of cats and dogs. For diversity, I added a few of those to our inventory.

The pet pictures were well received, BUT, people wanted their pets in the pictures. Being the “you can do it if you try” people we are, we set off on a quest to find a way to put YOUR pet pictures on porcelain. Steve learned the methods, brought all the expensive equipment and perfected the process.

During the pet picture challenge, we also reasoned that we could use any pictures on porcelain. Being able to put any picture on porcelin has become one of the most rewarding things we do at Brogan-Arts.com.

At a craft show one day, a lady approached us and showed us a picture of her son with his girl friend. He had died five years earlier in a motorcycle accident. She wanted a picture of just him on a pendant. We made the pendant as requested and she is probably the happiest customer we have ever had.

Since then we have made many personalized pendants, holiday ornaments and pet tributes. We made a picture of my brother’s dog Gretchen. He recently told me he is so happy he has that picture. It is a picture of her in the prime of her life and that is how he always thinks of her  - at her most beautiful.

This whole post may sound like a sales pitch, but it is written with the intent of just letting you know that this high quality, hand crafted service is available. With emails back and forth to get all of the parameters just right it takes about ten days to complete a project.

You can also share your own photography in a personalized gift. See what we have to offer.

The holiday season is right around the corner so do your shopping early.

Steve is studying to be a professional poker dealer. That sounds easy enough until you actualy do it. There are many tasks required and correct times to do said tasks. It is quite involved and takes practice. Steve has two happy players always ready to play with him.

Groundhog Day – Andrew Wyeth

Sometimes when looking at a work of art, we don’t always know the amount of work, thought and preparation that goes into the finished piece. Thanks to the brilliance of Andrew Wyeth’s wife, Betsy James Wyeth, who collected all his sketches and drawings, we can see the preparation for Groundhog Day. Whenever I see the picture, I replay all the drawings in my mind and Groundhog Day becomes a fuller, richer, more exciting picture than just what is portrayed in the actural work. Andrew Wyeth was a true geneius.

Bill Cosby

061003-N-0000K-001 Dr. William H. "Bill&q...

Image via Wikipedia

Bill Cosby has been an icon in our family for decades. We recently watched him receive the Mark Twain award. Many of our favorite celebrities such as Chris Rock, Jerry Steinfield, Steven Wright, and Sinbad were on hand to honor Dr. Bill Cosby. They told how Bill Cosby had been their inspiration and guiding light to become who they are today. Wow, that is quite a tribute.

Television is great, but seeing Bill Cosby live is more exciting. Last Saturday we again had the pleasure of seeing Bill Cosby live. The place was packed. We had excellent seats so we were able to see his every facial expression that adds so much to his performance. I mention that because we first became Bill Cosby fans by listening to his records.

Bill Cosby is 74 and still puts out original material. The whole place was laughing for prolonged periods of time. He is still inspiring others and making people laugh. His material also makes people think and that is good.

Thank you Mr. Cosby.
