Audio Books

Diane and I are fortunate to receive audio books from the Hachette Books Group of fictional works from authors that we are both interested in.

We receive these books at no charge to us and we do not guarantee that we will review them. After we are done listening, we donate the audio books to our local library.

They get into everything!

The boys are back and they just get into everything – literally! This has been going on since they were little kittens.

Spade and Diamond wants to meet some of our friends felines. Send a picture of your feline so that we can highlight your purrrrfect friend. Even better, send a picture of you and your cat together. Send to Diane@MomPopPow.com.

File sharing at Mom Pop Pow

Both Diane and I have had many occasions where it would have been helpful if we could have shared a file directly instead of sending the file by email or by copying the file to a USB card, USB stick or SD memory card.

We use the services of Dropbox.com because it is easy to use.

You can have a free account and share or store up to 2 gigabytes of files and data at Dropbox.com.

Watching TV

Quite often we hear people complain that they fall asleep when watching television. Another complaint is that many of the good shows are on too late at night. Fortunately, we watch whatever we want by using technology – even with television. How do you watch TV?

Party on for Charity

We attended a Charity Poker Tournament that turned out to be charity event. In addition to the poker, there were raffles, and karaoke. The most outstanding part of the event was the attendance and camaraderie of the multi-generational folks at the party. It was a great time, money was raised for charity and it was heart warming to see everyone have such a good time together.

Cats and Touch Lamps

Steve and I have a book case bed, the kind that was very popular when water beds were all the rage. We don’t have a water bed, but we still make good use of the book storage – and the cats like the wide top where they prance around and play with the lights. They have a great time turning the touch lamps off and on. They have other routines they do, but we’ll tell you about them another day.

If you could have only one…

Joe Sorge, of Kitchen Table Talks, asked the question, Stranded on a desert island with only one social media platform, what would it be? We thought about that for a while and decided we would probably never be a desert island, so we didn’t really answer the question.

Later we talked about starting today. If we didn’t have any gadgets or technology, what one item would we start with? After doing some pros and cons about various devices, we decided the smart phone would be the item of choice. One of the deciding factors for the smart phone is that we can attach it to the television and use the big screen for a monitor. All that is needed is a $2.00 cable and a $4.00 piece of software. The connection also works very well for showing videos from your phone. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

There’s an App for That

App refers to an application that can be downloaded from the internet to your phone, iPad, or computer. There are thousands of applications available. Some are free and some require payment.

A smart phone, often called a device, allows you to make a phone call, take and send a picture or a video, check your email, Twitter, Facebook or any other application you down load to your phone. You can down load games, calculators, pianos, even a light bulb that can be used as a flashlight. It works very well. You can do price comparisons, check out restaurants and their ratings. You can find the lowest priced gas in the area you are when you send the request. It also has a built in GPS system.

The smart phone is an amazing piece of technology. It is a computer that provides you access to the world. If it is something you would like to own, check it out at one of the wireless phone stores. If you just want to know more about it, have your kid explain their phone to you.
